Governors

The Governing Body consists of local people who have an active interest in the school as parents, staff, or as members of the local community. Parent Governors are elected by parents and other governors are either appointed by the local authority or co-opted on the recommendation of the governors. It is a voluntary role and we are always keen to encourage new governors.

The Governor's role at the school is to help make the strategic decisions to move the school forward. In addition, the Governors scrutinise the work of the school, particularly the standards of achievement, to ensure the school is effectively educating the pupils and preparing them for their futures. We do this both through our regular full governors’ meetings or as committees and by regular visits into school to look at different aspects of the curriculum.

Since May 2025, Holywell's Governing Body has operated through a Committee Model of governance which we feel allows governors to robustly monitor all areas of school improvement. The task of monitoring specific areas is assigned to the relevant Committee:

  • Curriculum Committee – Monitors academic performance, curriculum delivery, and teaching quality
  • Finance and Premises Committee – Oversees budgeting, financial planning, and premises management

Each Committee has their own terms of reference which set out their aims and objectives.

The Term of office for all Governors (other than the Headteacher) is four years. Co-opted governors are elected by the Governing Board. Parent Governors are elected by the parents of the Holywell CofE Primary School. Staff governors are elected by the staff. The Local Authority governor is confirmed by the Local Authority.

If you are interested in becoming a School Governor, then for more information please contact Paul Baddeley (Headteacher) or Debbie Woo (Chair of Governors). Contact details for governors are available from the School Office.

Organisation and Roles

Each academic year the Governing Body collectively defines the key areas of focus for monitoring, as determined by the School Development Plan. This plan is monitored throughout the year by specific governors who report back to the committees and full board.
